Sand Unity Ceremony The Unity Candle Ceremony can be a very symbolic and moving addition to the wedding ceremony. However, counting on being able to light candles on the beach with it's winds is almost impossible. As an alternative you might want to think about a Sand Unity Ceremony. Sometimes also called Blending of the Sands Ceremony. Just as the Unity Candle Ceremony has candles representing each of the families, you each have a container holding sand. As music plays in the background you each take turns adding the sand into a third container . Symbolizing the blending of two families and the joining of two individuals into one. Some people choose to leave a small portion of the sand in each container. This symbolizes the fact that you are still an individual even though you are now joined as one. Colored sands are sometimes used and as you take turns adding the sand you get a layered look in the new container. This container makes a lasting keepsake and reminder of your beach wedding. The containers can be bottles, vials or vases. These can be corked, capped or pour melted wax on top to seal. Sea shells are sometimes used. Your names can be etched onto clear glass containers. Clear heart shaped bottles are favorites for the third container. The other containers can be used for other things. In addition to the three containers, if children are included in the wedding extra containers can be used. Work with your officiant on the wording leading up to the sand unity ceremony. Here again a search on the web will turn up many suggestions. Colored sands and containers can be found online by searching, "Sand Unity Ceremony" or "Blending of the Sands Ceremony" The Sand Unity Ceremony works and fits well with a beach wedding. Especially if you plan to include a favorite song as part of the ceremony it can be done at that time. |
